Kevin Halpin was one of the most vilified trade unionists in the Tory press in the 1960s and 70s. His autobiography covers his life as a trade union activist, most importantly as Chair of the Liaison Committee for the Defence of Trade Unions, 1966-2002. Described as 'the most dangerous man in Britain' at the time of the struggle against the Industrial Relation Act in 1971-4, Kevin Halpin and the LCDTU mobilised the strike actions which secured the release of the imprisoned dockers in 1972. The book also tells the story of the author's childhood in the the poverty of interwar Preston, his period on the Executive of the Communist Party of Great Britain and as Industrial Organiser for the Communist Party of Britain from 1988.
